EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Andrea Laing:

Captivating Audiences with Humor, Heart, and Creative Passion

Conducted by Guillaume Jean Lefebvre

1. Andrea, you're reprising the role of Zoe in Adult Swim's YULE LOG franchise. What excites you most about this new installment, and what can you tell us about what fans can expect?

I am stoked to reprise the role of Zoe in the next installment of Adult Swim's Yule Log 2:Branchin’ Out! This franchise has such a unique blend of offbeat humor, existential twists, and dark comedy, so returning to this world feels like stepping into a strange, evolving dreamscape. Whether they are familiar with Casper Kelly’s work, the fans have come to expect the unexpected, and I think this next chapter is going to deliver on that in spades.

Without giving too much away, I can tell you that this sequel dives even deeper into Zoe’s psyche. She’s always been a character who oscillates between bewilderment and a strange sense of clarity, and we’re going to explore that balance in ways that are both absurd and genuinely emotional. Fans can expect more of that eerie, cryptic vibe that Adult Swim Yule Log is known for—those surreal moments where reality bends, and time feels... malleable. There’s definitely a growing sense of dread and intrigue, but also some wild, unpredictable comedy.

2. Following your experience in Pain Hustlers alongside Emily Blunt and Chris Evans, what did you take away from that project, and what stood out to you the most?

Working on Pain Hustlers was such a rewarding experience, and it was amazing to share the screen with such a talented cast, including Emily Blunt and Chris Evans. Both of them are powerhouses in their own right, and just getting to watch them work up close was a masterclass in craft.

It was interesting to observe the complexities of the pharmaceutical industry and the moral quandaries faced by those involved. There’s this undercurrent of vulnerability in every character, even when they’re at their most morally ambiguous. Seeing Emily Blunt bring that level of nuance to her character was inspiring—she’s so grounded and raw in her portrayal, yet she also balances it with incredible strength. Chris Evans, too, has this ability to navigate the space between likable and morally questionable, and it makes you root for him even when he’s doing things that aren't necessarily admirable.

INTERVIEW

3. As the face of Delta Airlines' campaign, narrated by Viola Davis, you've had the chance to travel around the world. What are some of your favorite destinations, and what travel tips would you share for exploring these places?

Amsterdam is an easy pick and definitely holds a place in my heart. London is a second home because my extended family resides there. Italy is lovely, I've never had a terrible meal. Bruges is spectacular. It's known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, picturesque canals, and cobblestone streets, earning it the nickname "Venice of the North.”

A general rule of thumb I would give for travel..I would say explore with an open mind, be sure to pack efficiently, do your homework, stay hydrated, be open to the local experience, have a conversation with the natives, try the local cuisine and most importantly keep a journal with you. I love writing down key moments and looking back in gratitude or even notating directions. Might just be helpful in case technology fails you.

4. Growing up in an international environment has shaped you in many ways. How has this influenced your approach to fashion and your personal style?

It has definitely played a huge role in shaping both my approach to fashion and how I express my individuality. Being exposed to different cultures, aesthetics, and styles from a young age made me more open-minded and experimental with how I dress. It also gave me a deeper understanding of how fashion is so much more than just clothes—it’s a form of personal expression, a reflection of identity, and even a way to connect with people from different backgrounds. It taught me to see fashion as a dynamic and ever-evolving reflection of who I am and where I’ve been. It's about confidence, culture, comfort, and always having fun with the process of personal expression. My style isn’t just about clothing—it's a lived experience.

5. As an actress and comedian, what types of roles would you love to explore in the future? Is there a character or story you dream of playing?

I’m always looking for roles that challenge me in new and unexpected ways—something that allows me to stretch my range and explore the depths of a character, whether it’s through humor, vulnerability, or drama. I’ve had the privilege of playing a variety of characters, but there are definitely some specific types of roles and stories that I would love to explore in the future like a larger than life comedic role.

It would also be exciting to take on a role that challenges traditional norms of beauty and femininity. A character who is powerful and commanding but doesn’t necessarily fit into society’s typical mold of what a woman should look or act like.

6. You have a passion for wellness, fashion, and travel. How do you balance these interests with your acting career?

I am incredibly passionate about each of these areas and how they play a significant role in how I live my life. I’ve learned over time how to incorporate them into my career in ways that nourish both my personal well-being and my creative work. I prioritize self care, mindfulness, yoga, meditation, and exercise per wellness. Gratitude is huge.

I’m really passionate about conscious consumerism, so I try to shop from brands that prioritize sustainability, or at least invest in high-quality, long-lasting pieces. When I’m traveling, I also love seeking out local, independent designers and artisans, which adds a personal touch to my wardrobe.

There are times when I travel for work internationally and I always try to carve out some time to explore the destination, even if it’s just for a few hours. Whether it’s checking out local markets, hiking in the countryside, or exploring a new city, I try to make it part of the experience. That time away from work helps me recharge and gain new energy, which is essential for my craft.

7. Do you have any special tips or routines for keeping your energy up and your skin hydrated after frequent travel and long flights?

HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE! Drink water constantly during and after flights. I use an electrolyte tablet like LMNT in my water to balance hydration. Supplements: a vitamin B-complex or adaptogens like ashwagandha help combat fatigue. Movement: stretch or walk around during flights to boost circulation and prevent energy slumps. Sleep: I prioritize sleep as much as possible, even if it’s in short bursts—rest is critical for skin recovery and energy levels.

8. Outside of acting, you engage in creative activities like writing, playing the harmonica, and even playing jazz for your plants! How do these personal moments of creativity influence your work as an actress?

They’re not just hobbies, but forms of expression that nurture different aspects of my imagination, and they definitely influence my work as an actress. When I play, I’m often improvising, which taps into my ability to be spontaneous. This is very similar to the freedom I feel in acting—being present in the moment, reacting to what’s happening around me, and not overthinking every move. I know it sounds a bit quirky, but playing jazz for my plants is a practice that really brings me into a grounded, almost meditative state. Music can be incredibly healing, and the energy of jazz—improvised, spontaneous, and expressive—reflects the kind of energy I personally promote.

9. With a career that includes popular shows like The Game, Atlanta, and NCIS: New Orleans, what are some of the most memorable moments of your journey so far?

I absolutely loved working on a Sundance project in the Philippines and Delta in Argentina but I'd have to say the meaty stuff was behind the scenes. I loved chatting with Catherine O’ Hara on Pain Hustlers. She's incredibly down to earth and just a lovely human. When I performed Vape the Musical (which is now being adapted into an Off Broadway Production) Wendy Raquel Robinson came to see my performance which left me speechless. Sharing belly laughs with Keegan Micheal Key and having grounded meaningful conversations with Barry Jenkins. These are all heart notes and are beyond memorable.

10. Finally, if you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?

You will lose that jacket, but you will always find another one that fits better.

Quality, not quantity

We have made quality our habit. It’s not something that we just strive for – we live by this principle every day.
