EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Hannah Cheramy

Rising Star of

FROM
Inside Season 4 of FROM and the evolution of Julie Matthews

Conducted by Guillaume Jean Lefebvre

1. Season 4 of From premieres on April 19 on MGM+. What can you tell us about where the story picks up and the mindset of the characters as this new season begins?

This season starts in a very interesting place. Everyone is wondering if the cliffhangers of Season 3 really did happen or if it was just a version of a story, or if Boyd really did see what he saw? So many questions!

2. After everything the residents of the town have gone through, how would you describe where Julie Matthews is emotionally and psychologically at the start of this season?

I can’t say exactly how Julie is feeling at the start of this season, but she is definitely going to be tested this year.

3. The series continues to deepen the mystery surrounding the town and the forest. What makes Season 4 particularly intense or different from previous seasons?

I think this season is different from past seasons because there are many unlikely pairings/groups that start to work together this year. And when everyone puts their heads together we start getting places…

4. Since Season 1, audiences have watched Julie grow from a frightened teenager into a young woman shaped by trauma and survival. How did you approach portraying that transformation?

I think I’ve just grown a lot since I started playing Julie so I’ve brought in my own maturity to her, while also trying to keep her youth present. Yes, she’s experienced trauma, yes, she’s maturing faster than a normal teenager, but she is still a kid, and I don’t want to forget that.

5. Julie has experienced many traumatic events over the seasons. How have those experiences shaped her perspective and her relationships with the other characters?

I think that Julie’s trauma really pushes her to hold everyone closer and not take anyone for granted. Any time she goes through a near death experience, or someone in town helps save her life, she makes sure to find them and thank them; because she knows that if she doesn’t have any sense of connection in this town, she will lose herself.

6. Is there a moment this season where viewers will really feel how much Julie has changed?
Yes. I think early on people will see that Julie is not the same person that she used to be.

7. You’ve been part of the series since the very beginning, and in many ways you’ve grown

up alongside Julie. How has that experience influenced your performance?

Yeah, I definitely have. I think that my own growth has impacted my performance and how I

play Julie; specifically in the way that I go about my prep process now.

Hannah Cheramy is quickly establishing herself as one of the most compelling young actresses of her generation. Known for her role as Julie Matthews in the hit series From, she has grown alongside her character, bringing depth, vulnerability, and authenticity to a story shaped by fear, survival, and emotional complexity.

As the series returns for its highly anticipated fourth season, Hannah continues to explore new layers of Julie’s evolution — portraying a young woman navigating trauma, resilience, and identity in an increasingly unpredictable world. With a natural instinct for truth in her performances and a passion for storytelling that has been present since childhood, she embodies a new wave of talent driven by sincerity and artistic dedication.

INTERVIEW

8. Looking back, do you see parallels between your own coming-of-age and Julie’s journey on the show?

Sometimes. I think that Julie and 16-year-old Hannah are/were both very family oriented yet also wanted independence and to find their way in the world. This is common among almost all teenagers, it’s what makes us human.

9. What have you learned about yourself as an actress while playing such a psychologically layered character?

I’ve learned to trust my gut instincts. Since I’ve been playing Julie over the years I find myself in auditions not just doing what I think that casting wants to see but instead what I think that characters real truth is. And sometimes that decision might not get me the role but I can only live honestly if I’m being 100% me and putting that trust in myself.

10. The series was created by producers of Lost, a show famous for its complex mysteries. How would you describe the balance between horror, mystery, and human drama in From?

Personally, I’d put human drama and mystery at an even 40/40 split and horror at 20%. Yes, there are classic scary moments, but I think that some of the most haunting moments come from the ways that characters interact with each other and their surroundings.

11. You share the screen with actors like Harold Perrineau, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Eion Bailey. What has it been like working alongside them over multiple seasons?

It’s been amazing to work alongside such talented, devoted leads. I couldn’t ask for better.

12. The town and the surrounding forest almost feel like characters themselves in the show. How does the atmosphere on set help you immerse yourself in such a dark and mysterious world?

Sometimes, especially if I have an emotional scene, I love to take walks around the town and improv moments of Julie’s day-to-day activities to really ground myself and tap into Julie.

13. You’ve been involved in some wonderful projects already. At what age did you first realize you wanted to become an actress, and what initially attracted you to this career?

Is birth an acceptable answer? I’ve known my whole life that all I want to do is perform, no matter how, no matter where; it’s always been in me. I was young when I started so it would be the Disney Channel that first opened my eyes to young performances and it really drew me in. But today, what makes me stay attracted to this career, is my undying love for creating art and potentially moving someone by that art.

14. What advice would you give to young people who dream of following a similar path but sometimes feel unsupported in their career choices?

It’s advice I tell myself everyday: just keep trying, you will never know if you don’t try. There are times that I get called for auditions where I think that there’s zero chance that I would book it and that I might as well not even read for it; but where would that get me? Why should I let any fear or anxiety that I might have of failing hold me back from maybe succeeding?

15. Without giving away spoilers, what can fans expect to discover about Julie in Season 4 that might surprise them?

Her determination.

16. Why do you think audiences continue to be so fascinated by the mystery of this town and the characters trying to survive within it?

Because our creator John Griffin is amazing and created a really cool show that attracts equally cool people. And playing detective is fun when watching mystery shows.

17. If you had to describe Season 4 of From in three words, what would they be?

Ah. Ahh. Ahhh.

Quality, not quantity

We have made quality our habit. It’s not something that we just strive for – we live by this principle every day.
